Additional learning needs

How we identify and meet additional needs — the same way for every child, across the border.

Meeting additional needs

This page will describe how Llangattock identifies and supports children with additional needs. Our provision is built around the individual child, and it is the same whether a family comes from Wales or from England — we simply work within whichever framework applies to that child.

Identifying need

Describe how needs are identified and assessed, and how families are involved from the start.

The support we provide

Describe the bespoke provision, small classes, and wellbeing-led support that every child receives.

Statutory plans we work with

Children join us with different statutory plans depending on where they live: an Individual Development Plan (IDP) under the Welsh ALN system (introduced by the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018 and the ALN Code), or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) under the English SEND system. Both set out the support a child should receive, and we deliver it in full. Our commitment to the child is identical; we simply use the right framework and terminology for each family and authority.

Working with home authorities

Describe how the school co-operates with placing authorities — Welsh and English alike — to review plans and report on progress.
